Kurfürstliche Burg Eltville, Kurfürstensaal

The town of Eltville has been nurtured and shaped by its long centuries of history, and today it features a multiplicity of rather special facilities and sights. One of these is the Elector’s Castle, in which today the traces of the town’s most famous residents, Johannes Gutenberg, can still be seen. It was built in the first half of the 14th century on the ruins of a preceding castle destroyed in the Customs War of 1301, and is still regarded as the town’s emblematic landmark. Today, with its romantic castle courtyard, its Adam’s Garden and its moat with its idyllic rose-beds, the castle ensorcels its strolling, relaxing visitors. In early summer, guests can admire the luxuriant array of magnificent blossoms on innumerable varieties of rosebush.
