The hall was named after the mythical phoenix, which is reborn from its own ashes. Erected in 1949 on the foundations of a building destroyed by fire, it was used to manufacture railway trucks, buses and trams. From 1983 to 1993, the US army repaired its vehicles here. The Phoenix Hall was then converted for housing theatrical and musical productions, with the existing cranes continuing in use, thus preserving the hall’s original character.
