Schloss Johannisberg, Cuvéehof

The palace’s elevated location on the top of a hill engirdled in vines, high above the Rhine valley, long ago inspired paeans of praise from Heine and Goethe. But presumably it was not just the beauty of the landscape, but also the exquisite taste of its fruits that prompted these poetic rhapsodies. After all, the history of viticulture on the climatically favoured Johannisberg hill is studded with superlatives: the first grape harvest here that’s mentioned in the records dates from 817. With the archives recording a Riesling vine planted way back in 1720, Johannisberg ranks as the world’s oldest Riesling vineyard. Both the spätlese and the auslese processes were discovered here.

Parking options

On the grounds of the palace itself, the parking options are extremely limited. We recommend allowing sufficient time for your journey. The Shuttle Service set up specifically for the major events of the Rheingau Music Festival at Johannisberg Palace will always offer a favourable alternative to arriving in your own car.

Shuttle Service

For the major events on 28 June, 29 June, 30 June and 1 July, all events, special buses from Wiesbaden are deployed, which take visitors to the gates of the venue and can be used by showing the concert ticket. Departures are 70 and 60 minutes before the concert begins, at Wiesbaden Main Station (Bus Platform D), though you can also board the bus at the Platz der Deutschen Einheit (Platform B) and at the Kahlemühle P+R car park (Wiesbaden-Dotzheim).

In addition, a shuttle service will be provided from the car parks in Industriestrasse in Geisenheim. On 28 June and 29 June, from 5.30 p.m., on 30 June from 5.00 p.m., and on 1 July from 9.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. The buses will return after the events, the final bus after an announcement.

Catering

The palace’s restaurant, with the sun terrace and the summer garden, treats its guests every day (open all week) to the Rheingau’s gourmet delights, ranging from exquisitely elegant to satisfyingly solid.
