In 1800, the Counts of Westphalia built Schloss Reinhartshausen in its present-day form. In 1855, Princess Marianne of Prussia from the princely house of Oranien-Nassau purchased the buildings and the land. She expanded the palace to include a museum, and as an immensely generous benefactress left a tangible and lasting legacy to Schloss Reinhartshausen and the community of Erbach as a whole. In the 20th century, highly regarded estate managers ran the winery, purchased additional vineyards and improved the vinification technology. In 1957, Schloss Reinhartshausen was converted into a hotel, extensively renovated from 1987 to 1991, and expanded to include what is now the West Wing. Today, the well-regarded winery is managed in conjunction with the upmarket hotel.
