The Sebastian Sternal Trio presents ist debut CD “Eins”.
Miles Davis, Brad Mehldau, Claude Debussy and John Williams – this illustrious list of great names is casually reeled off by the Sebastian Sternal Trio when they’re asked about their founts of inspiration. Jazz, music from the classical tradition and popular film scores are of equal perceived stature as sources of ideas for the young trio headed by the immensely gifted pianist Sebastian Sternal. Born in Mainz, he studied in Cologne and Paris, and has already worked with jazz greats like John Riley, David Binney and Dee Dee Bridgewater. After winning numerous prizes at piano and composition competitions, he was awarded the prestigious WDR Jazz Prize in 2007, in the “Improvisation” category. The specialist periodical Jazzthing stated: “Thus one of Germany’s most promisingly talented pianists is maturing in a fertile interplay of tension and release, career and private life, the traditional trio school and new ideas. Perfect for Sebastian Sternal, this witty puppeteer of aural splendours, who with his personalised style has long been constructing his own blockbuster: a quantum of jazz. And a whole lot more.”
