Hugh Wolff

»With magnificent artistic results, Hugh Wolff has shown that a present-day orchestra must not focus solely on the 19th century and its immediate environment, but has to be flexibly receptive for authentically interpreting 400 years of music.«
Hugh Wolff was born to American parents in Paris in 1953. He studied under Leon Fleisher (piano) and George Crumb (composition), and at Harvard University, majoring in composition (Leon Kirchner) and as his ancillary subject piano (Leonard Shure). He then spent a year at the Conservatoire in Paris, where he studied conducting under Charles Bruck and composition under Olivier Messiaen. He performs regularly nowadays with the major international orchestras. Hugh Wolff was from 1997 to 2006 Musical Director of the hr Symphony Orchestra.
