Steinberg Winery, Hattenheim

The Steinberg vineyard is located in front of the monastery gates, directly next to the Steinberg, the oldest monopoly terroir of the former Cistercian Abbey in Eberbach. Taking due account of the sensitive cultivated landscape, with its rolling vistas of serried vine, an architecturally sophisticated winery has been built on the domain’s grounds, specifically conceived to harmonise with the Steinberg wall and the listed half-timbered buildings. This successful design was in 2010 awarded the »Wine Architecture Prize«.

The Steinbergkeller was lauded in 2008 as a »Cathedral for the Riesling Grape« (FAZ) and »Europe’s most sophisticated winery« (Stern). In the predominantly underground cellars, extending over 5,000 m2, the Hessian State Wineries at Eberbach Monastery vinify wines of special excellence to the very highest levels of quality, doing full justice to the stringently superlative standards set during the past nine centuries.
