»...a unique organisation, dedicated to the holistic promotion of musicological science, research and teaching. It adopts an explicitly interdisciplinary approach, subsuming not only the practices of musicianship in both its performative and pedagogic aspects, but also musical instrument producers, doctors and all forms of therapy.«

The DGfMM (German Association for Music Physiology and Musicians’ Medicine) sees its role as an academically focused specialist association. Its goal is to promote research and academic studies not only in the fields of music-making physiology and pathophysiology (the study of the specific malfunctioning that comes from or causes disease), but also in the field of physical and psychological diseases suffered by musicians. Regular congresses, symposia, publications, the award of an academic prize, and the German-language academic periodical »Music Physiology and Musicians’ Medicine« as the official organ of the DGfMM are all designed to help achieve this goal.
