Peter Greiner

»The prize-winner has succeeded to remarkable effect in advancing the craft of violin-making, focused as it was predominantly on the care and restoration of old masters’ instruments, by making new violins with fascinating options and attributes.«
Now 37, a self-taught Peter Greiner made his first instrument at the age of 14. Today, having completed his apprenticeship in Bonn in 1995 by qualifying as a master craftsman, he ranks as one of the world’s leading experts in violin-making. Front-ranking soloists and ensembles prefer instruments from Peter Greiner to their old Italian counterparts. Greiner attaches great importance to liaising closely with the performers concerned. Launching a dialogue between the craftsmen and the performers for our era, giving it a new and fruitful relevance, is a milestone in the ongoing story of violin-making. Greiner is currently working on orders from performers like Anne-Sophie Mutter, Heinrich Schiff and Tabea Zimmermann.
