»The Artemis Quartet merit our deepest respect, since they already rank second to none among the world-class string quartets, and epitomise a new generation of string quartets in the best sense of the term. The ensemble’s unique achievement is to synergise the traditional string quartet repertoire with the creative vibrancy of the present day.«

The Berlin-based Artemis Quartet was founded in 1989 at Lübeck Music College as a student ensemble. Their principal teachers and mentors were Walter Levin, and the Emerson, Juilliard and Alban Berg Quartets. They have been playing professionally since 1994, and quickly became one of their generation’s leading ensembles. Their international breakthrough arrived with first prizes at German TV’s Channel One competition in 1996 and at the »Premio Borciani« a few months later. Their glittering career began with their debut in the Berlin Philharmonic in June 1999.
