»On the foundations of her extensive solo and chamber-music repertoire, her commitment to the music of the 20th century is no less exemplary than her encouragement of young talent. She makes a crucial contribution towards giving the viola a new stature on the concert stage.«

Born in Lahr in 1966, the violist Tabea Zimmermann can be regarded as a phenomenon without parallel on the present-day musical scene. As a soloist, she makes guest appearances with the most prestigious of orchestras, and performs chamber music with colleagues like Heinz Holliger or Steven Isserlis. Tabea Zimmermann repeatedly demonstrates her keen interest in contemporary music with successful premieres, like the Sonata for Viola Solo by György Ligeti, composed specifically for her, in 1994. Tabea Zimmermann has won numerous accolades for her artistic achievements both in Germany and abroad.
