Volker David Kirchner

»...in recognition of his oeuvre as a composer, which is also closely linked to the Rheingau’s cultural scene […]. The prize thus marries gratitude for his selfless commitment to admiring appreciation of his artistic achievements.«
Born in Mainz in 1942, the composer Volker David Kirchner began his musical career as a violist. In parallel to his work as an orchestral musician, he founded the Ensemble 70 in Wiesbaden in 1970, and since 1972 has worked as a composer for stage music at the Hesse State Theatre in Wiesbaden. Since 1988, Volker David Kirchner has been a freelance composer. His oeuvre covers all categories: not only numerous compositions for the musical theatre, but also and primarily chamber music and orchestral works.
