Themes & Series
The
Rheingau Musik Festival's diverse program is usually structured by varying
themes and series: In the 2012 Jubilee season, two special concert series offer
quite a few opportunities for anniversary serenades during the festival summer.
In the context of »Festmusiken« (Festive Music), all
kinds of solemn music by George Frederic Handel, Johannes Brahms and Charles
Ives can be heard, while the series »Wegbegleiter« (Companions along the way)
leaves the stage to musicians who, almost from the festival's inception, have
witnessed the development of concert life in the Rheingau and played a central
role in shaping the festival. The »Geigenreigen« (Violin Circle) portraits six
internationally renowned violin virtuosos, three extremely different organists
will open up new »Orgeldimensionen« (Organ DImensions), and the
traditional »Komponistenporträt« (Composer’s Portrait)
is dedicated to the Hungarian conductor and composer Peter Eötvös this year.
