Christiane Karg about her residency at the festival

Christiane Karg is one of the most sought-after contemporary lyrical sopranos, highly praised for her interpretations on the opera stage and as a lieder, concert and oratorio singer. At the Rheingau Music Festival she appeared on the podium early as a choir singer and in 2012 for the first time with a lieder recital. As a focus artist, Christiane Karg will shape the 2019 festival summer.

In this film she presents her concerts at this year's summer full of music!

Christiane Karg will be the focus artist at the Rheingau Music Festival, where she will perform music from Mozart to Smith in eight events. The soprano accompanies friends to the concerts, with whom she has long had musical partnerships: In an evening of chamber music with our artist in residence Daniil Trifonov, Renaud Capuçon and Clemens Hagen, they will interpret works by Debussy, Tchaikovsky and Amy Beach (July 4). Together with The English Concert under Laurence Cummings, the artists immerse themselves twice in the sounding treasure chest of the ingenious composer on our Mozart night (13./14.7.). Together with Rolf Beck and the International Choir Academy Lübeck, Gioachino Rossini's "Petite Messe solennelle" (9.8.) is on the program at the Wiesbaden Ringkirche. A conversation evening, the rendezvous with the music journalist Katharina Eickhoff (14.8.), provides insights into her world of thoughts. In an evening of Schubert songs, Christiane Karg and Gerold Huber trace the longing for the South (15.8.). Christiane Karg and friends of the hr Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Schumann, Ravel, Montsalvatge and Villa-Lobos under the theme "In der Fremde" at Schloss Johannisberg (August 24). At the end of her residency Christiane Karg will perform with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. The programme includes Benjamin Britten's "Quatre Chansons Françaises" and Gustav Mahler's 4th Symphony (31.8.).
